Definitions of static random access memory:
- An integrated circuit similar to a DRAM (dynamic random access memory) with the exception that the memory does not need to be refreshed. Unlike volatile memory (ie, DRAM), SRAM retains its contents even when the main current is turned off.

- electronic data storage device that can be randomly accessed, such as PCMCIA card (as opposed to sequentially accessed). Static refers to its ability to retain the data as long as power is supplied to the device either by a battery or a computer.

- High-performance memory that does not need to be refreshed and is much faster than DRAM. SRAM retains data even when power to it is turned off. However, because it is much more expensive and bulky than DRAM, it is used almost exclusively for cache memory.

- is a type of memory chip used in Random Access Memory that can take advantage of a particular method of working with certain main processors. In brief, a certain spot in RAM is first accessed. Then each address after that first address is accessed in order, up to a specific point. Because the computer doesn’t have to “figure out” each sequential address to access, a large block of memory can be accessed in less time than is required with DRAM. ...
